According to Pevsner and Cherry, the St. Thomas More Buildings were “the first new housing built” by the borough, 5 hefty blocks of flats . . . [in] red brick cheerfully embellished with stone quoins and some carving. . . . Built to provide 261 self-contained tenements with eight bathrooms” (584).
