Putti symbolizing Painting, Commerce, and Astronomy by unknown sculptor. 1 Bishopsgate, City of London EC2. Several sites mention the building as a Grade II Listed Building and as one acclaimed for excellent refurbishment for use as an office building (see below), but I have been unable to find it on the British Listed Buildings website.

Architecture and Literature or Philosophy. [Click on these images and those below for larger pictures.]

Left: The rather poorly sculpted figure holds a scale in his left hand and a scroll and writing implement his right while a sword, axe, and pincers appear at his left. The scale seems appropriate to selling gold or other precious substances, so together with the steel weapons or tools, this panel might represent metalwork. Right: Partial front elevation of the building on which the putti appear between grotesque male nd female heads.

The figure with metal objects discussed above plus Agriculture with his plow and Music with lyre.

Photographs by Robert Freidus. Formatting, perspective correction, and commentary by George P. Landow.
