I have retained David B. Stevenson’s Freud Project, which dates back to 1994, for two reasons both crucial to the history of humanities computing, the first of which is that David not only designed it himself, but using a dog-eared manual he taught himself UNIX and created what had to be the earliest humanities site at the university. All was made possible because Gerald Guralnik, famous for writing the key paper on the Higgs Boson, showed showed us the computers in the High Energy Physics Lab but permitted us to put David's work on. David didn't stop there but created the beginnings of what became “The Religion in England” section of the Victorian Web.
