iane Greco Josefowicz, our Managing Editor as well as Editor for Science and Technology, holds a BA from Brown University, a PhD in the history of science from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and an MFA in creative writing from Columbia University's School of the Arts. She is author, with Jed Z. Buchwald of the California Institute of Technology, of two books on the history of nineteenth-century Egyptology, both published by Princeton University Press: The Zodiac of Paris: How an Improbable Controversy over an Ancient Egyptian Artifact Provoked a Modern Debate between Religion and Science (2010) and The Riddle of the Rosetta: How an English Polymath and a French Polyglot Discovered the Meaning of Egyptian Hieroglyphs (2020). She is also the author of a novel, Ready, Set, Oh, published in 2022 by Flexible Press; a novella, L'Air du Temps (1985), published in 2024 by Regal House; and a collection of short fiction, Guardians & Saints: Stories, forthcoming in 2025 from Cornerstone Press at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point.
The author of the pioneering Cyborg Web, she worked for many years as an editor at Eastgate Systems, the premier hypertext publisher in the United States. Her award-winning fiction, essays, and articles have appeared in national and regional publications such as the Boston Globe, the LA Review of Books, Fence, Conjunctions, Liber: A Feminist Review, and Rain Taxi, and her scholarly articles and reviews have appeared in Isis and Perspectives on Science, among others. She also serves as editor of reviews at Necessary Fiction and as a reader in fiction for The Rumpus. She lives in Providence, Rhode Island and New York City.
