It is Christmas, and the sunshine
Like the plumes of some bold warrior,
From yonder shadowy peepul,
The earth is bright with blossoms,
For the East is earth's first-born,
And yet I pine for England,
It is merry there at Christmas–
I remember the banners |
And above each rusty helmet
And the white and pearly misletoe
The morning waked with carols,
And sang beneath our windows,
And at night the aged harper
Those were the days of childhood,
I shall come again—a stranger
I yet may ask their welcome,
For my spirits are grown weary, |
