Scenes from the Life of St. John the Baptist. Lavers, Barraud and Westlake. Probably 1880s (see Crampin). South wall of the south aisle, Church of St John the Baptist, Cardiff. The three-light window shows Zacharias in the central light, writing "His name is John" on a tablet (as in Luke 1, 63) with Elizabeth looking on, head bowed. In the background are the tiny baby, brought for circumcision, and two onlookers. The scene on the left is of Mary greeting a seated Elizabeth. Joseph, holding a spray of lilies, and Zacharias, are both looking on. In the right-hand light, John the Baptist is shown preaching, holding his familiar staff, while people listen with rapt attention.
In the tracery lights are two musician angels, and below the main figures are patriarchs and angels holding texts.
