East Window by Michael (1801-1867) and (1826-1873) Arthur O'Connor, dating from 1859, of St Margaret, Bodelwyddan>, a Grade I listed church in Clwyd, N. Wales. The five-light window depicts the resurrected Christ and scenes from the last days of his earthly life. In the central lights we see of Jesus raised to heaven, above the angel on the empty tomb below, and part of the scene of the Last Supper below that. [Click on the images to enlarge them.]
The top row of figures
The risen Christ holds a palm frond and wears a golden robe. Hosts of angels worship him on either side, and the outer figures, writing on scrolls, represent two of the Evangelists.
The middle row of figures.
Here is the angel on the empty tomb again (pointing heavenwards), with the astonished soldiers meant to have been guarding the tomb rousing themselves bedside it, as the the disciples and the three Marys approach. The women carrying precious oils to anoint the (now vanished) body. Again, at either side, two Evangelists are seen. Like the east windows at the end of each aisle, this was the gift of Harriet and Emma Williams, the sisters of Lady Margaret Willoughby, who had commissioned the church in memory of her husband.
