Madonna, Child, and the Three Magi. St. Barnabas Pimlico, London SW1. King David, author of the Psalms and ancestor and type (or prefiguration) of Christ, appears at left. This, one of seven mosaics in the church, are “in the Ravenna style, composed not only of marble and stone but also of coloured and gilded glass; they are believed to be the work of an Italian family living in London in the late 19thC” (“Guide”). Inscription on brass plate: “To the glory of God and the memory of Robert Tower Jan 22 18[99?].” Tower, Kempe's son-in-law and successor, designed some of the stained glass and sculpture in the church.
