Love is the Magic

Eleanor Vere Boyle

Chromolithographic print by Leighton Bros.

10½ x 8 inches

EVB [Eleanor Vere Boyle]. Beauty and the Beast, plate 10

The princess unites with the prince in this highly romantic image, the final plate in the book: 'Love is the magic that makes all things fair'. Boyle's design is closely linked to the idealized neo-medievalism of Dante Rossetti and the Pre-Raphaelites. First executed in watercolour, it is expertly turned into a chromolithograph by Leighton and Co.
