This is by no means an exhaustive list, but includes most of the major sites thus far discovered:
Country Houses etc:
Charlton House, Charlton, London: seven fireplaces of “Dutch” tiles, one with Garrard Cuenca tiles (see figs 11-15)
Cragside, Northumbria, (National Trust): upstairs and downstairs corridor dadoes and dining room fireplace with Garrard Cuenca tiles. (see figs 36-38)
Mount Grace Priory, Northallerton, Yorkshire: one fireplace with Garrard delftware designs, one with a mix of Garrard delftware and Arts & Crafts landscapes set alternately, one fireplace set with 5” and 3” blue and white Garrard tiles in delftware style. (see figs 39-41)
Owletts, Cobham, Gravesend, Kent (National Trust): Fireplace in bathroom with Garrard delftware designs, alternate tiles: birds with fleur de lys corners and flower vases; Kitchen backsplash with Garrard/James Cricket tiles, also similar in one bedroom. (see figs 42-44) This house also has several other fireplaces and an extensive basement creamery tiled with Dutch and English delftware tiles. Note: Garrard tiles are not in the areas of the house open to the public.
Bletchley Park, Buckinghamshire: Panel of Garrard Cuenca tiles in side room.
Grim’s Dyke Hotel, Harrow: the former home of Sir William Gilbert of Gilbert and Sullivan fame. Fireplace and dado of Garrard Cuenca tiles in what is now the Dining Room (see fig 45).
Royal Courts of Justice, The Strand, London, George Edmund Street, 1866 to 1882, one fireplace with Garrard cuenca tiles (see fig 46)
Tatton Park, Knutsford, Cheshire, extensive dado of Garrard “Pomegranate” tiles
Churches
Christ Church Cathedral (Holy Trinity), Dublin: two panels of Garrard’s Cuenca tiles on the walls of two chapels at the east end of both aisles; and the only known installation of Garrard floor tiles in a “mosaic” pattern of roundels and interlocking cruciform tiles. This area of tiling is set in a large floor of Craven Dunnill tiles, but is quite different in character and style to the Craven Dunnill tiles.
Further churches with Garrard Cuenca tiles:
St Peter, Britford, Wilts, restored 1873
St Agnes, Newmarket, Suffolk
St John the Baptist, Bettisfield near Wrexham, North Wales: G E Street, 1873-4.
St Swithuns Church, Bournemouth, Hampshire
Several more Garrard Cuenca church tile schemes are illustrated and listed in articles by Philip and Dorothy Brown, Glazed Expressions 25 (Winter 1992) and 26 (Spring 1993).
