Red morocco presentation binding, title gilt direct to the spine, raised bands with rope-twist roll, foliate tools to the compartments, upper board with elaborate gilt pictorial title block, authors monogram gilt to the lower board within single fillet panel, pin-dot edge-roll, all edges gilt, single fillet to the turn-ins, marbled endpapers.
Eves was a prominent London-based West India merchant with interests in Jamaica, who was one of the principle organizers of the 1886 Indian and Colonial Exhibition, for which he was made a Companion of the Order of St. Michael and St. George. The recipient was the Secretary of the parliamentary West India Committee, 1884, and the author of Outlines of the Art of Elocution.
