The Porcupine. 48 Charing Cross Road, London WC2H 0BS 1873. According to the information plaque on the pub’s exterior, “the Porcupine has occupied the same location since 1725 when the pub’s address was 1 Castle Street. The Porcupine soon established itself as a favourite haunt of the local freemasons and in 1807 it became the meeting place for the Lodge of Confidence and remained so until 1829. The building of Charing Cross Road was started in 1877, and was essentially a widening of Crown Street and Castle Street. Works were completed in the late 1880s.” Click on images to enlarge them.
